Our Bed & Breakfast, I Poggiolo Di San Miniato, is located in the Tuscan village of Ponte a Elsa, a tiny place between the Province of Florence and Pisa, where the Elsa river split two provinces. The B&B is in the Pisan part, 5 km from San Miniato, on a hill admiring the valley of the rivers Arno and Elsa.

San Miniato, whose original center dates back to the seventh century, was founded by a group of Lombards  that  built their church dedicated to Miniato, a martyr. Frederick II of Swabia built later the fortress. After his German origin, the village was called for a long time San Miniato al Tedesco (San Miniato of the German).

In the beautiful and historic San Miniato there is during the week-ends of November the famous White Truffle Festival.

The location is perfect for guests who want to enjoy interesting walking and trekking along the ancient Via Francigena, that is less than two miles away from our house, a wonderful road that offers unique sceneries. (In this regard I am sure that my husband, after his great experience during his pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, will be happy to be with you as guide).

30 km from Florence, 40 from Pisa, 55 from Siena, 100 from Arezzo, 50 from Lucca, 25 from San Gimignano, 30 from Pistoia, 8 kilometers from Vinci (the birthplace of Leonardo) B&B I Poggiolo di San Miniato is the ideal starting point to discover the cultural treasures in one-day-trips.

We can also arrange your trips with a professional tourist guide.

We should also not forget to mention Collodi, with his beautiful park, located about 35 Km, especially known for being the birthplace of Carlo Lorenzini, the author of Pinocchio! Also very interesting is the ancient town of Certaldo, Boccaccio’s  medieval village, about 25 Km. from us.
